Children need their dad...
I am gradually learning that children really need their dad, they need him to play, to laugh, to roughhouse and to be a big kid. They don't need dad to come home after a long day of work and grunt and groan about how bad work was. By the time you walk through that door, kids have built up a days worth of excitement and anticipation waiting for daddy, they want to share the things they learned in the classroom or the bumps they got on the playground.
Today when I came home, I decided that I was going to leave work at the door and when I got through that door, I was on my children's time. Of course, after they go to bed, it's time that I spend with my wife. However, on this day we played, we laughed and we had fun. My youngest who is nearly a year had fun crawling all over daddy and laughed whenever she managed to climb on top and just sit. My 2 year old daughter was having fun playing the part of a monster hiding in her closet. She would jump out and try to scare me and my 5 year old. By the end of the evening we were all rolling around the floor having a great time. I think we had such a good time, that it was tough for my 2 year old to go to bed that night. After tucking my younger two into bed, I let my 5 year old stay up and we made oatmeal cookies. This was some quality time I was desperately needing from my children and it allows my wife to have a little of the burden taken from her of being at home all day with three children. Its amazing how simply playing with your children is therapy for your soul. You forget the daily stresses of life and remember how to laugh.
A PRAYER FOR LAUGHTER
Father, the day to day living can be so challenging and easily drain us of the pleasures in life if we’re not careful. We thank you for our friends and family who pull us away from that mindset and add laughter to our lives. Would you bring genuine laughter to the hearts of our readers today as they go about their daily duties. May they hear laughter and may they make laughter, verbally, and in their hearts. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen
