Build a project.... together.

Build something.  Come up with a project and build it.  Create something with your bare hands and witness it take shape.  This past weekend I did just that.  I took on a big project of a bathroom remodel and it was great.  I usually sit for an entire week behind a computer and work, but this weekend I worked with my hands.  I did some demo, some drywall and some tile and it felt good.  No project is too big or too small when you think in comparison as to what God did when he created this world, do you think he said "that's a lot of work, I think I will take a day off".  No, he worked until he was done and then he rested, he saw his idea through its completion.

Your project can be as simple as a birdhouse or as elaborate as a tree house.  Whatever your choice, include your children and teach them and pass on your knowledge.  Of course, they may slow you down a little with all of the questions but the time you will spend with your children is well worth it.  People are not born with the knowledge of how to build or even how to cook, it has to be passed down.  I learned all of my construction knowledge from my father and uncle.  My father did not know how to build but my uncle taught my father and my father taught me.  Countless weekends growing up I was by my dads side working with him and learning everything from how to tile, to install an electrical outlet.  I know the difference in nails and how to use a hammer.  Thanks to my dad, I have the confidence in my abilities to know that whatever I put my mind to I can accomplish.  Thanks Dad!

Next time you have a project think of including your children and how excited they will be to work by daddy's side.  As funny as it is, I like to think back to the movie "A Christmas Story".  Do you remember how excited Ralphie was when his mother told him to go help his dad change the tire on the car.  Go build that birdhouse!  And never forget that with God by your side, you can do anything.

A PRAYER FOR THE GIFT OF KNOWLEDGE
Absolute and all knowing God,
Nothing is hidden from Your sight.
In the prescience since the beginning,
All knowledge existed within You.
Kindly share Your knowledge with me,
Making me aware of what is meant to be,
Permitting my soul to understand it,
And wisdom to agree with its outcome.
Provide me with the gift of discretion,
To prudently apply received knowledge,
To ensure the fulfillment of Your Will.
Your knowledge shines forth forever!

Amen.
