Confession, Good for the Body, Mind & Soul
Gospel for October 14, 2008
Lk 11:37-41
After Jesus had spoken,
a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home.
He entered and reclined at table to eat.
The Pharisee was amazed to see
that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal.
The Lord said to him, “Oh you Pharisees!
Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish,
inside you are filled with plunder and evil.
You fools!
Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside?
But as to what is within, give alms,
and behold, everything will be clean for you.”

Confession is good for the soul. Be honest with yourself and with God. You teach your children to work hard and to tell the truth. You teach your children to respect others and you hope and pray that they do right by God. Isn't it time you did right by God and go to Confession more then once or twice a year. Don't be that Catholic dad who goes on Easter or Christmas. Be that role model in faith your children need. Children quite often follow in the actions of their parents. As the gospel says, "Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil." We are quick to wash our hands but we are hesitant to wash our souls. After a good confession, it's hard not to have a more positive outlook on life, to feel better all around. As a more positive person with a healthier spiritual side, it's hard not to be a better dad. You do not have the burdens of your sins weighing on you, and in turn, you can focus your attention on your children. Whatever you have to say for what ever sin you had, you need to remember you are not the first and you are not the last. A priest has heard it all.
